Ho ho ho Meetical Fans,

Meetical’s December News are here. Some really fresh news to keep your brain warm! I'll start with a long term backlog item, finally shipped. Then we'll have a look at the improved create-meeting functionality in Meetical for Jira (free app! 🎁), and then my favorite section: random thoughts, fun facts, greatful thanks and inspiration for a happy holiday season.

Let's jump into it!

Meetical for Jira
Freshest news today comes from the Meetical for Jira App! Today, we extended the feature to quickly schedule a meeting from any Jira issue. Works for Google Calendar and Microsoft 365. We added support for all user custom fields, be it single or multi user selects. Enjoy! – Thanks to Tom, for requesting this feature! At Tom's organisation they track stakeholders/meeting participants in a custom field and this way they can quickly create a meeting with all of them. Here’s an example:

Meetical for Confluence

I’m pretty excited to finally ship the feature to Link Calendar events to Existing Confluence Pages! That lingering backlog beast finally made it out the door—and it was a hell of a lot tougher than any of us ever expected. But it's here!

The "Link Existing Page" feature. New in Meetical for Confluence.

Some scenarios to link existing Confluence pages to your Calendar:

  • Imagine you don’t know if/when a meeting takes place yet so you craft the agenda in Confluence. Later, you create the calendar invite, and you want to link the meeting event to that exact page. Ho ho ho! Now you can! Simply use the “Link Existing Page” button. And we’ll transform the page into a Meetical page and link it to your calendar event.
  • Now picture you have a regular 1-on-1 meeting tracked on a Meetical Single Page. And now this week you do an additional Christmas/End-of-year checking. You schedule it on your calendar, and would like to link it to the same page? Ho ho ho! Now you can. Simply open that One-off meeting and hit the “Link Existing Page” button. – Credits for this use case go to Marcin! Thanks for your patience on this feature request!
  • Another scenario, very real in this end-of-the-year season: Your 1-on-1 series ends for this year and you create another series for the next year? Would you like to simply connect the whole series to the existing Meetical Single Page. How that? Ho ho ho! Now that's possible, simply choose any occurrence from that series, click "Link Existing Page", and the whole series get’s linked to the Single Page.
  • And yet another scenario: You finally started to start your Free Meetical Trial for 2025 (woohoo!) and created a one-off Project Meeting with Meetical. Soon it turns out that you need some additional sessions to complete this. Ho ho ho! Just open the additional event and click the “Link Existing Page” button.

But we're not done yet. You want to point multiple series to the same automated Meetical page? Oh oh oh. This feature is still under development. Again, gold plating it for you. As well as support for this feature for the Outlook Add-in (Fully supported however for both MS and Google in the internal Confluence Calendar). Stay tuned for January. Thanks for your patience. Send us your feedback, your collaboration is highly appreciated!

Safari Extension

Since we’ve got a couple of requests on our Support, if we support Safari... Ho ho ho! Yes we do! Check out our Safari Extension for Google Calendar!

Now on to some general Atlassian/Confluence news.

Create Jira tasks from Confluence

Something which every second Confluence users seems to complain about: Creating Jira tasks from Confluence is not as easy as it should be! Now Atlassian made a step forward. Creating issues from Confluence got an improved experience, and a lot more fields you can directly compile. Not bad. But – still – on my Christmas wishlist I’d like to see improvements for the “Create Multiple Issues” feature. Dear Atlassian, please also make it possible to create issues from Confluence tables, and map each column to a corresponding Jira field!

Embed Jira Releases smart and quick

I’ve told you about the cool new Confluence feature to embed any Jira Dashboard in Confluence. This makes our Free Task Reports App much more useful! And by the way this feature also works for Boards and Backlogs! Simply copy-paste the Jira Link into Confluence and voila your embed is ready!

Now Atlassian went one step further: You can now quickly embed Jira Releases on your Confluence pages. Pretty cool, when Confluence and Jira work well together, this can be a huge productivity gain.

#Random

Nobody complained about this section yet, so I keep spamming you! 😁

#AI Wow, Google seems to do quite some updates to their ChatGPT counterpart Gemini 2.0. You can now record your entire screen and ask for on-screen real-time support! See an example for SEO tasks and coding. That’s incredible. (Seems not to work in Europe yet, but hope to be able to try this soon!)

#AI-iiiiiiiii - AI is dangerous in Jira. I enabled an Automation in Jira to move all tickets automatically to the "deploy" status, once all pull requests are merged. And why not, I asked Atlassian Intelligence to do so for me. It all looked good, and I felt smart. Until this morning when I found thousands of tickets, in that status. What happened? The automation did run for ALL tickets on my project, once the last pull request was merged. What a major blow-up! And there is no way to undo is. I had no backups (sure there's apps for that). Luckily with some JQL magic and bulk change I could undo this. Boy I hope you have backups if your corporate instance experiences this. I'll triple check AI suggestions from now on, or simply stop using for these kind of tasks. What's your experience with Atlassian Intelligence?

#Snowboarding Did you know you can read past newsletter on our blog? Each post comes with a cover photo from my private travels, hikes and trips. This time from Cervinia in Italy where we opened the snowboard season and celebrated the birthday of one of my best friends. You can actually Ski three connected areas and go all the way from Italy to Switzerland and see the famous Matterhorn!

#Appvent I recorded a short video/interview with Anja from Swarmit! Huge thank you to my former colleague Anja Fuchs from Swarmit.ch. Stay tuned for the interview as it goes live next week for Christmas as part of their 4th Appvent Youtube video.

#Stats The click stats from the last newsletter, first place the Atlassian Team Europe Conference On-Demand Videos, second place Confluence Live Edit pages, and Third (Thank you!) the new Jira App Docs page on How to Create Meetings from Jira. – I’m pretty curious which link will win this time.. (The new Link Page Feature is on my wishlist!)

#Gratitude This time of the year can be stressful and depressing for many of us. I hope you’re safe and happy. I feel pretty lucky to move in my own flat this week and celebrate Christmas with my family and a new baby niece. And of course, my girlfriend ❤️. Special thanks to her as she helps me to regain and preserve mental fitness when things get tough! Something I learned from her is practicing gratitude. At first it might feel silly, but it has big potential and reminds you that all of us have many many things to be grateful for. It really makes a difference. Check this blog for some inspiration.

I’m grateful today that I can write this newsletter to you and give it a personal bliss in this AI generated world. And I’m grateful that you’ve read it until here. I hope you can drive some value out of it.

Dear Customers, Followers, Partners and Friends, I wish you merry Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or whatever you want to celebrate, or just enjoy some cozy vibes, and an amazing, happy, and grateful start into the new year!

Happy Holidays, stay Meetical, and see you in 2025! ✨
