Is quitting a skill?
Maybe reading the book "Quit" just before the Atlassian TEAM Europe event wasn't ideal! But I did, and it helped me decide to cancel the conference this time. There were just too many blockers ramping up: I'm moving house, our new upcoming Jira App was on the finish line, and I accepted a new side gig consulting project for a JSM rollout into a large HR organization... just to name a few.
On that JSM project, they call me the Jira Gott(er), but even the Jira God has his limits. We all need to set priorities! I usually stick to my agreements as much as I can, and hoped to see many of you at the conference, but sometimes it's just better to quit or cancel.
As the book states: "It's rare that good quitters get an applause, but quitting is an essential skill to make space for the best things in life to happen." I recommend the book — with a maximum of one glass of wine per reading session to prevent activism.
Cancelling Barcelona was a great decision as it turned out, and a real productivity boost, as you’ll read in this newsletter!
Now let’s move on to some feature news for the Meetical Apps. Of course I’ll deep dive into our new Jira App (just launched!) – and yes, Dark Mode for Meetical is finally here. We’ll also explore some general Atlassian News (mostly the *new* Jira) and some great Confluence news, including Live Pages and the new and cool Rovo AI agents!
I’ll close again with some #random things.
Shared Calendar Subscriptions
We’ve shipped a new exciting epic for Easy Calendar: Shared Calendar Subscriptions! With Shared subscriptions, you create Calendar Subscriptions once, subscribe users, and they receive personal ICS links compatible with Outlook or any calendar. Updating the Jira filter is a one-time change that applies to all users. Try the new version today or jump on a call with me.
New: Meetical for Jira
Meetical Meetings is now called simply "Meetical Calendar" or "Meetical", and with that move the app also enters the Jira game. As customer you get an additional FREE Jira App including the Meetical Calendar to create Meeting Notes directly from Jira – no more context switching to Confluence when creating agendas or documenting meetings. And, in addition, we added a feature to create meetings quickly from any Jira issue. A great use case for this are support Agents who want to quickly schedule a call with reporters, approvers and request participants to clarify issues. Get the App today for free.
Review of the Month
I want to introduce this new section and share some of the best reviews. This month I want to thank Jörg Hedrich for sharing this review for Meetical Calendar with us: "Really boost the way you can work with Confluence and meeting minutes. Something I won't miss anymore is the automatic generation of meeting minutes of meeting series several days in advance."
New Landing Page
Need an update on new Meetical features? Not using Meetical for Confluence yet?
Checkout our brand new landing page with 17 new nicely designed screens, and updated messaging. This is also the best time to go on a date with us again, and start a new trial for Meetical Meetings on the Atlassian Marketplace.
Live Edit Pages now.. Live!
As I’ve reported last time, Atlassian experimented with Live Edit pages, and the good news is, they are now live! As announced on the TEAM24 conference, which is also available on demand now.
The Live Edit mode keeps Macros interactive and this way you can interact with the Meetical Attendee List and also continue to use the previous/next navigation and other features and links. I really like these live edit pages, and here is how to enable this feature.
Embed Jira Dashboards in Confluence
This new feature from Atlassian is pretty amazing. Simply copy + paste any Jira Dashboard Link into Confluence and get a Jira Dashboard Embedded on any Confluence Page!
This way you can also use the Confluence Task Reports Dashboard directly in Confluence!
The *new* Jira (terminology)
I was never a fan of the term “Jira Software” and “Jira Work Management”. And it will be the very last time I use them, since – as you probably know – both are now only called “Jira”. However, Jira Service Management (JSM) will continue to exist under the long form name. I guess the question “which Jira do you mean? The normal Jira or the JSM Jira…” will stick with us, as long as people who will spell Jira “Jaira”. And that’s ok. I made peace with it. JIRA is Jira. And it’s your Jira in the end!
Apart from this, we have another issue. “Not every thing you work on is an issue (anymore)”. Finally, you can simply work on something, without any issues. But jokes aside, I’m sure for many this step is similar to the moment I had twenty years ago, when we migrated a Bugzilla project from “everything is a bug” to “everything is an issue”. And I admin, it felt good. I saw no issues with that.
Update: Use "Jira" for JSW and JWM and JSM for (drum roll) JSM.
Rovo AI Agents
Rovo is a new Atlassian Product I’d describe as a mix between amazing cross-product search, a AI powered teammate and JiraGPT. The coolest part for me is that you can setup and configure your own Agents with code or no-code. This year’s CodeGeist Hackathon will for sure be pretty interesting and probably reveal some Meetical use cases! Stay tuned.
What’s next?
With the CodeGeist Hackathon announced late this year, we’re for sure diving into some new APIs and AI stuff! What AI features do you want to have for Meetical? Apart from that we’re still working on the Link Existing Page feature. Gold-plating it for you right now. Next focus topic for us will likely be around improving Confluence Tasks, which will probably bring deeper integration between Task Reports and the Meetical Calendar. Stay tuned!
#Random
Speaking about random fun facts, my last newsletter stats reveal that the most-clicked link was….. Wing Foiling! I’m considering a career move after that. But wait – we said no activism – let me enjoy the Atlassian eco-family and my “Jira God” title for a little longer.
#TechDept – Apart from the new features we’ve added we also invested in paying off our technical dept. Important topic, and one tool which grabbed my attention to measure technical debth was CodeScene. Pretty cool, thanks Agile Pete for pointing us to it.
#ChatGPT – I’m pretty fascinated by the new o1-preview model (youtube review) of ChatGPT. With the right prompt it can handle incredibly complex questions and calculations. It even helped me calculate different options when buying a house—including comparisons with parallel alternative investments and accounting for inflation. Really impressive.
That’s it for today! Thank you so much for reading. I’m curious which will be the most clicked link this time. Please make it our new 100% FREE Jira App!
Stay safe and productive, quit what blocks you, and stick with grit and gratitude to all the amazing things in your life!
See you soon 🎄
